Joey Riley is a small town boy with big time dreams. Originally a fireman from Wiley, Texas, Joey quit firefighting after another fireman rescued Joey by pulling him up by his suspenders. Realizing that life is short, Joey decided to follow his dream of moving to Branson and breaking into show biz as a fiddle-playing comic.

Luckily, Joey has two mentors, Mack Grady and Merle Tubbs (played by Mickey Gilley and Mel Tillis), to look out for him. He has a crush on Rainey Tanner, the theater's costumer, played by the young and pretty Sarah Morton. She's dating Scott Drake, but that could change if Joey has his way!
